Lucid Moon Review Poetry Website
Guest Book Archives 3 (2002)

To Ralph, Jr.'s Friends, It's been 8 mo. since Ralphy's car accident. He has had set-backs during the past month: various infections & pneumonia-his lungs are weak-but after being in St.Barnabus Hospital (NJ) for a month, he is now in Morris Hills Center across from the hospital. He is recouperating & getting rehab. We still have faith & hope that he'll be back at his website & in touch with you all. He listens to his music & tapes & we read him all his mail. He is working hard to obtain use of his hands & arms & hopes to soon be at his computer. Again, we thank you for all your messages & support.

Ralphy, Bob Penick tells me you've contracted a case of pneumonia. Must be the latest thing. I just had a bad case of it myself last January. Now, it seems that everybody and his Uncle Ed (Aunt Mary, too) is coming down with pneumonia. Well, if nothing else, you're in fashion. Stay cool. And please. Get well soon.

Dear Friends of Ralph, Jr., It has been 4 1/2 months since Ralphy's near-fatal auto accident. He is getting physical, occupational & speech therapy at Summit Ridge. He is more paralyzed than previously thought. He is paralyzed from the chest down. That is why it will take longer to wean him off the trach tube. He still has his feeding tube in & it is used only at night. He is getting regular food 3x a day, but it is used as a supplement. He had to learn how to swallow, & is now learning how to speak with a trach tube. It is a very slow process. He has lost about 80 lbs. (what a way to lose weight!!). He will be at Summit Ridge for another 6 mos., or until he is ready for Kessler. (3 to 6 hrs of therapy is too much for him to handle now). It is quite sad to see him struggle, but he is a fighter, & will overcome this! We continue to read his emails to him, & he has indicated changes to some of his bio's. ( I'm now his secretary!) Do keep up your wonderful messages - he will be back in the small press as soon as possible! Our love & thanks to all of you & best of luck with your poetry. Sincerely, Ralphy's Family

Dear Friends, George Harrison probably changed the world more than anybody else we can possibly imagine. There is nothing more soothing and more inspiring than the music of an incredibly gifted artist, and George Harrison is certainly one of, if not the most influential artist of the 20th century. Let's pay tribute. At the very least, just drop in and say that you share his vision of peace and love. Sign the George Harrison Guestbook, to keep love alive

Ralph - The lives of editors and poets seem overlooked, often wasted, especially in the small press world. We are the wildmen, the fire eyed prophets, wailing in the desert, tearing at our beards and chewing stones. We have to have the faith in our vision, in our voice, the inner wisdom or horror that drives us to be what we are and do what we do. What you have done with Lucid Moon is important. It may not lead to the cure of cancer, the conquest of space or the launching of a new religion, but it is real, a true effort to add something to the world rather than take something from it. May you be blessed in the only way a poet can give a blessing, with the gift of words, and may you recover swiftly so you can use your gifts again. God speed. - Joe Farley

Great to here you're improving, Ralph! I'm going to dub you another tape this afternoon and, since you've still got that feeding tube in, I may eat some Chinese food in your honor. Love ya, buddy. Take care.

Yes, Ralphy, Words, words, and more words! Where would we be without them? Dream then of sweet lines from the Muse and your recovery will be most quick. Best Wishes From Your Hack, "Slick Willy On The Go."

Dear Friends of Ralph, Jr., Today is the 3rd month of Ralphy's accident. We are happy to report that he is healing, slowly but surely. He still has the trach & feeding tubes in, but he is getting stronger each day. We are now expecting him to be transferred to a rehab center in the next week or so. Hopefully his next update will be from him - after all the exercise his muscles will get from physical therapy! He can't communicate by talking because of the trach tube, but hopefully it will come out within the 4th month. Please keep up the prayers & comments, as we read them to him each day, & they bring much comfort to him! Thank you again, RJ's Family!

So great to know that your health is progressing and you are on the way to recovery. Peace and warmth Ralph, the world will still be here when you are ready to fill it with poetry again.

Ralphie, Sorry to hear that you are unable to speak because of the tube in your mouth and that you can't write now because your arms are too weak. (Doug Holder reported this in his Ibbetson Update email column after speaking to your father.) Kessler is supposed to be a very fine place for rehabilitative therapy. Take care and take as much time as you need to heal. Your friends will be here waiting for you.

Hello. I hope you do read this piece to Ralph, I hope he likes it and he dreams of travelling in the Mirror too, out into a magic world of happiness and health.
Travels in the Mirror
I stepped into your golden mirror
I saw you looking in
I heard you whisper I heard you think
I saw your eyes, a spark a smile,
I saw your eyes, worlds of melancholy.
I heard you whisper, I heard you think
of times gone, of jazz, notes,
of blue moons, silver oceans,
and glances, gone.
Just step into my mirror,
and take us for a spin
To see the magic rainbow carps
under the water lillies
into the Tea Garden
They will laugh and they will tell us of their lives past
of kingdoms gone, and slipped away, into a wormhole,
into a looking glass, into your life, and out of mine.
I will see you again
in the hyperspace through the stars, beloved, again."

Ralph, Though the road ahead will be a difficult one, and it will take years for your body to heal, your gift remains in your unique ability to beautifully express what the rest of us muddle through feeling. You will be OK. I enjoy my visits with you and reading your books with you. Love, Cam

without revealing my name, i will say that i have continued to fall deeper into the liquid essence of word s and the world. having ended a long relationship in 1996, and finding myself on an island monestary , and then re-emerging into reality with an all new love and power in 99. these days, i am happily with a real love, (ana i am sure you know what i mean from our past conversations), with a German intellectual beautiful being boy whom edits my grammatical poetical mistakes, but not my thoughts. i want both you, dave and ana to know that through all the naivety, ignorance, and childishness on my part, that i have loved you and still continue to hold the flame of friendship. suprize!!?? guess who? i am back from the dead. and with a crazy body of work and vision. my prayers, mantras, have flown from my imaginings so many times your way, over the years. take care, and email is you wish. blessed be magickal strain

Whew! What a shock to log on after all too long a delay and then hit the accident news! But also what a relief to hear you're on the road to recovery, too. Glad to learn your sister's there, too. Blessings and miracles, always.
