Sorry to hear - albeit belatedly - of how ill you have been. Get well quickly Ralph ... and confound all your critics. There is surely room for us all in the world of poetry... even if we do not always approve of each other's efforts ... the main thing is that we are all - or should be- working towards the same ends. So get well, Ralph, make a speedy comeback... and SHOW!!!!!!! them!!!

Dear poetry friends, a positive report on Ralphy's progress: He came out of his coma, and is slowly doing better. He is off the ventilator, and breathing on his own. he has no fever or infections, and all his vital signs are good. They moved him out of ICU to a respiratory therapy room to strengthen his lungs. He has a feeding tube into his stomach and the trache tube is still in his throat, so he can not speak. However, he did smile for us yesterday when we read him some of the comments in the guest book. He also lifted his arms. He gets range of motion exercises for his arms. In about 1 month he may be moved to an acute care facility to begin rehab. It will be a long road back, and it is a miracle that he is alive. Our family thanks all of you for your prayers and goodwishes. We are planning a poets party when he is well enough. Hi Ralph, I know that your parents are reading these messages to you, and I know that you can hear their words. You might not even remember me, but you gave one of my poems a chance by posting it on your website at the beginning of the year. It was a tribute to John Lennon (December 8, 1980). I want you to know that us writers need your spirit to stay with us. We have never met, but I have visited your site often. Stay brave and willful. Come home, as poetry has missed you.

So glad to have some news of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers or, as we Quakers say, I am holding you in the light. I went to a meditation session this week lead by a Korean Zen master. He showed us some of the traditional "Ox-herding pictures" and pointed out that in one the moon had moved from the sky. "Moon Inside." He said. "Inside Moon.' Of course I thought of you. Ah, dear, dear, lucid moon. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

To All Ralph,Jr's Friends: Ralph, Jr. is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)at Morristown Memorial Hospital. This is his 7th week there. His vital signs are all good. He is starting to breathe on his own, with some assist from the ventilator. He has a low grade temperature from various infections. He is on antibiotics to quell them. He has been in a sleep state - neurologist calls it a coma - trauma doctor calls it an ICU psychosis (brain shuts down from all the noise, lights & activity after weeks in the ICU). The good news is that he's starting to open eyes & focus on us a bit. Doctor says this will continue for several weeks, but he is optimistic that RJ will come out of this state. Please continue with prayers, we know they are getting him through this tragic condition! Thank you all for your love & concern through all of this. We make hard copies of all your messages & read them to him daily. He opens his eyes occasionally & we all feel he hears us. We also play his music. We're going to play his tapes, etc. to bring him out of this. The doctors keep telling us to be PATIENT. It's so hard.... Again, thank you all for your love - it helps sustain us! Ralphy, your work, your comments, your light have inspired me through the death of my mother and the World trade center tragedy. I cannot imagine what your family, and especially your parents, are going through, but I do know that if you put your faith in God, no matter how things turn out they will be for the best. You will make it, Ralphy, I know you will. You are very strong. Poets have to be strong. They have much mediocrity and suffering to conquer. You have already won, Ralph. You just don't know it. Hey there ralphy....I am currently in a school classroom and I was thinking about my savior Jesus, I just happened to randomly select your name out of list of poetry. I guess God wants my prayers with you. I just want to say that you are in my prayers and I know that if you allow God's will to come to you there is nothing to doubt or worry about. "you of little faith, why did you doubt ME?" not that you are doubting anything but i just write that so that you always remember that your father Jesus is in charge and in control, you must allows allows have faith and trust in HIM. He loves you so much. When you are in HIS hands there is nothing to fear. "no eye has seen, no ears have heard..what GOD has prepared for those who love HIM." he's always faithful and whatever HIS will may be it will bless you. Just never stop loving him. Remember you dont' always have to be able to understand and comprehend everything, you just need to know that HE is always there standing there beside you. I read some of your poetry and it is truly beautiful. The first poem )Lucid Mooon I thinkit was called)was exceptional. I could feel every inch of it, i could feel it give me shivers as I walked through the wilderness with you. Anyhow smile today. Any day the good LORD allows you to open your eyes HE has got something special for you to do. Jesus loves you. YOu are in my thoughts and prayers. IN HIM- Erin Ellickson

Thanks again to all of Ralph's friends and poetry colleagues who have expressed their good wishes for his recovery. Regarding his accident, his car had no airbag, and he was unable to use the seat belt due to his girth. He was driving alone,11:30 AM, bent down to pick up a water bottle on the passenger floor. We believe he pulled the wheel to the left, and inadvertently stepped on the accelerator. His car crossed the oncoming lane, on our street - he was 4 houses away from home - and jumped the curb and hit a pine tree. We estimate that his speed was 50+ MPH, as the car was totalled, and the tree was 4 feet into the hood. We explained his surgeries in our prior entry. As of 10/09/01, ralph has been on painkillers and sedatives - morphine - so that he can heal from his surgeries. He has not been awake for us to talk with him. He is not in a coma, as the doctors have awakened him periodically to do neurological tests. His brain and upper body respond perfecty. He is on antibiotics for an infection. His fever at times hits 104, then subsides. He is on a ventilator for ease of breathing until he gets stronger. His stitches have been removed, and his forehead is healing. His vital signs remain strong - heart, blood pressure, lungs, all other organs. He will remain in ICU for 6 weeks. He has excellent medical care. It will be a long and slow recovery. We are optimistic that he will make it. Thank you all again for your prayers and good wishes. Many of your cards, emails and poems are in his room on his bulletin board. We look forward to the day when he reads them and realizes how many friends he has made through poetry. You are his world.

Dear Friends of Ralph, Jr. Thank you so much for your kind prayers and thoughts for my brother, Ralph, Jr. Words cannot express the appreciation we have for all who have written in this guestbook praying for Ralph. Ralph is still in ICU and will be there for many weeks. It is hard to believe that 10 days have already passed. It is ironic that after the joy of seeing his first book: Wounded Heart,Naked Soul---published just a few short months ago, Ralph Jr. would undergo heart surgery and many other procedures/operations. Please,Please continue to support Ralph Jr. through prayers. Each of you have touched Ralph in some way, as well. May he be able to reach out to you via the poems he has written. Ralph Jr. had 2 poetry books published recently. The 1st book, Wounded Heart,Naked Soul was printed in the Spring containing the first collection of poems Ralph Jr. wrote over a ten year period. Two of the many touching poems: Angel Watch Over Me and Chasing Rainbows are just several of the many beautiful poems Ralph has written. Many of the peoms in the book; Wounded Heart, Naked Soul portray the essence of honesty, humor and sorrow universal to human nature. The second book recently published is titled: Scattershot Haze (it is a tribute to the beat poets). Please, Please, continue to support Ralph Jr.'s work by purchasing these books. Both books can be ordered through Xlibris Corporation at 1-888-7-XLIBRIS, Orders@XLIBRIS.com (4962-HASE)for Wounded Heart,Naked Soul and double check the 4 digit # for Scattershot Haze when ordering. Thank you so much for your prayers and support for my brother. With Love and hope for Ralph's healing, Chris & Cam (sisters)& Kathy & Ralph (parents) & family.

Thank you to all who have sent their prayers and good wishes to Ralph Jr. They are working ! He is doing well. So far Ralphy has endured: a 4 hour heart operation-aorta bypass; 100 stitches on his forehead (went through winshield); tracheostomy - still has tube in throat for better breathing; a filter placed in vein, to prevent clots; and 9 PM Saturday nite, he had a 4 hour hip surgery to repair a cracked socket, he came through this excellently. He will be on anesthesia for a while. He still has no feeling in his legs, but we are optimistic that this may improve with therapy. His vital signs are strong, all organs - no damage, no infection, good blood pressure. 85% of patients never make it this far. Doctors are pleased. Ralph is strong, he is a fighter. Keep up the good wishes, it will mean a lot to Ralphy. It will be a long road back, but your thoughts and wishes will sustain him. He is in ICU of Morristown Memorial Hospital, Madison Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07962

Ralph, I am very troubled to hear of your collision, but am also relieved to see that you have such a loving family and large network of friends who are supporting you and keeping your spirits buoyed. My family helped me through the recovery after I had (what sounds like) a similar accident several years ago. My father in particular (who was himself killed two weeks ago in a fender-bender) held my hand through my most terrifying hospital days. You've got my email if you want to talk about any of the difficulties this experience will bring. Or if you just need someone to listen. You survived so much already, Ralph, even before this terrible experience. I know from your poetry that this is not the first time you have encountered great pain, and I know from reading your words that you will find a way to get past the difficult times that will be ahead. I'm still honored that you published my poetry last Spring. You wouldn't have seen it in my work, but I am a practical person. I hope you won't be insulted by a bit of advice. Be prepared - your life will be very scary and frustrating in the months ahead - I learned from my own experience that it is humbling to be uncertain about whether you will see again or walk again, or to wonder what your face will look like. Stay close to your loved ones and take good care of yourself. I send you my sincerest support and good wishes, and hope that you are home soon, Ralph.

Dear Ralphy: This prayer's for you, and you're deserving of countless others from us whom you've helped over the years. To all of Ralph's poetry friends, my brother,Ralph Jr. was in a very serious Auto accident on Monday mid-morning, October 8, 2001. My parents, sister and I ask everyone to please pray with all of your might and reverence for my brother. Pray very hard that the Lord allows him to continue with his gifted insight and poetry. Please pray for Ralph Jr., as he is only in God's hands now. This is not a joke. I am Ralph's sister, Chris, and cannot figure out how to reach everyone he keeps in contact with so I am writing in his Guestbook to tell you that because of his accident he has not been able to do the Poem of the Day which many of you look forward to. I am writing to everyone who has supported my brother, inspired him and who reads his most recent addition/section- "Poems of the day...." Please, Please, pray for Ralph Jr., his life and his gift to all of you. Your love is needed through prayer to sustain Ralph's life. If he has touched you with his poetry in some way, Please, Please pray for him, his recovery and his future. With love in the Risen Lord, Jesus, whose peace surpasses all understanding, we, his family, beg of you to pray for our brother, my parent's only son, Ralph Haselmann,Jr. (Ralphy). With hope and love that all who care about Ralph receive this, you may respond by signing/sending your support on this guestbook so that if the Lord decides not to take Ralph to everlasting life, he may one day read your inspiring words, prayers or thoughts to sustain him through the long recovery that awaits him. With love in Christ, please pray for Ralph Jr. --His Sisters, Cam & Chris & loving parents, Kathy & Ralph Sr & family.

I loved the lucid moon essay. I have published seven books and 40 poems and over 300 articles in 20 newspapers and magazines over the last 20 years. I am glad to know a web site like this has sprung-up. It gives writers the chance to indulge their need to express themselves and clean their artistic plate. Perhaps a magazine can come of this, something quarterly at first, and that would really give the academic journals (THE NEW YORKER, GETTYSBURG REVIEW) a run for their money, and motivate the more amateurish journals to accept and demand more interesting and powerful work. Thanks Ralphy for your unabashed support of poetry. My dream after over 100 featured and open mike readings is to take poetry into the smoke-filled arenas and stadiums where rock and roll reigns supreme. What do you think?

Just surfing by-looking for possible homes for some of my poetry.A frustrating experience-between the stuck up "literary excellence only" academy of fine quirks and the "loon- june" amateaur hour. I found the poems in Lucid Moon to be a refreshing happy medium(which I believe my own fit in the same category).I've had about fifteen poems published in the small press since the early '80's but I've yet to gather up the nerve to send out poems via the net (I'm still somewhat computer illiterate)Dare I venture into the 21st century I'll give you a try-meanwhile--keep up the great work.

He is about to graduate 6th grade and is performing in a "Beatnik Coffee House" celebration for the end of school. I must say I was surprised when I realized how much time had passed while I was visting the site. Ryan really liked the poem titled, Punk Rock Ryan. I think we have our ideas now. Great work and inspiration. Robin and Ryan PS-Ryan says, "Mom's Rock!"

Clicked over here from Poesy Mag Homepage (www.geocities.com/bmorrise2/). Very nice bit of work. I too am an editor, but the print kind, run a mag called Cranial Tempest and am always interested in seeing what other people are doing in small press publishing, both in print and on the net. Also, always looking for new poets and writers. Hey, nice site, keep up the good work.

So impressed with your brief, lucid poetry reviews that I've decided to add them to my BOOKZEN: Free Book Information web site, home of the Incredible Librarian who says, "Poet, Poet write me a poem / Doctor, Doctor leave the poets alone...." *Poetry is an interval of sanity in an increasing worldwide mental disorder.

Keep this with your copy of "Morning Kiss". The Book of Rules hasn't been published yet, and even after it has been there will be those that still won't understand. Rule # 1: None of the old rules apply to us. angst [angkst , angst , aangkst , aangst ] noun 1. PHILOSOPHY existentialist dread: in existentialist philosophy, a feeling of dread arising from an awareness of free choice 2. anxiety: any feeling of dread or anxiety OUR DEFINITION; 3.THAT TIGHT, PAINFUL FEELING THAT COMES FROM DEEP INSIDE THE CHEST AS THE SOUL KICKS AND SQUEEZES THE HEART. A TIGHTNESS ASSOCIATED WITH MILD PAIN THAT WORKS IT WAY FROM THE CHEST AREA TO ONES UPPER EXTREMITIES CAUSING THE JAW TO QUIVER, A CHILL TO RUN UP THE SPINE, THE FINGER TIPS TO TINGLE AND LIQUID JOY TO LEAK FROM THE CORNERS OF ONES EYES. [Early 20th century. From German. Ultimately from an Indo-European base meaning "tight, painful," which is also the ancestor of English anguish and anger.] Until now I never realized that there was a word to describe the feeling that I so often get when I think of you. You are right, it is a poetic word and if you don't mind I'll try to use it with both positive and negative definitions.

Well balanced. I would suggest to those critical of LM not being 'hard hitting enough' to check out the archives. Lyn Lifshin and Anna Christy, just off the top of my head for example, aren't exactly light hitters... though may actually be too good as writers to be considered hard core by some. It doesn't have to be crap to be hard. And 'what's so bad about peace, love, an' understanding.' I like the way you have translated the popular hardcopy "zine" format to electronic media, Ralphy. True to the concept of 'poetry for the people, by the people.' Stay true.

Dave Taylor's "Dream" is a good poem, with vivid imagery and a unique concept, but it doesn't compare to the other poems of his that I've read. I would definately recommend his work, maybe not this poem, but more of his later poetry.

I stumbled upon your great site. There's some really nice work. I really liked that "Dream" poem by David Taylor. There was something about it that spoke to me.

Dear son, just a note to let you know how very proud I am of your creative endeavors (at least the clean stuff). You have obviously inherited my poetry gene, but your imagery and flowery language far surpasses any of my feeble efforts. By the way, I don't see any of my poems on the website!! Continued success. With perseverence, I know you will soon publish your poetry books. Just in time. Your mother and I are ready to retire. Love Dad.

Hi, Ralph...very sorry to learn that Lucid Moon, the paper edition, has been suspended, but at least your publication lives on the web. I wish you much luck and success. You have a wonderful site. take care...

Ralph, Good going on your Internet site! Although I am sorry to see Lucid Moon suspended in paper form, at least it continues in another. Nothing should ever truly die. I know from experience that you only accept work that meets a high criteria. Don't stop that; be cruel if you have to. No one ever attains greatness without pain and, sometimes blood.Yours respectfully,Jeffrey

Sean Reagan's poem EVERYTHING I KNOW seems to me a pretty spectacular piece of work. It's in the Moon Poems section, if anyone else cares to have his or her heart broken in about three places. Beautiful, Sean.

Hi, Heather St. John! Have you looked throught the "Your Poetry Page" archives? While not hardcore, I wouldn't call the poetry soft. Great variety of new and established voices. Hoping to see something of yours on here soon! All the best from a fellow scribe.

I think this is a good web page for people to go to to feel better. I do think it's a little soft. I can understand the no racism, etc. part but maybe things should be a little more personal. Hopefully Ralphy will put some of my poems on his page and it will hit more people closer to home.
